The Nucla -Naturita area of western Colorado is surrounded by National Forest and BLM land. Hundreds of miles of jeep trails stretch out in every direction, making this the perfect stop for exploring the wonders of nature in a truly remote setting. Head south from Grand Junction along the Unaweep Tabequache Scenic Byway, on Hwy. 141, for breathtaking views of river canyons and rugged bluffs. Explore thousands of acres for Indian ruins or abandoned mines.
The nearby Dolores River offers some of the finest rafting trips available in Colorado. Visit the historic Bedrock Store, founded in 1887, where scenes from movies such as "Thelma & Louise" were shot. Camping at nearby reservoirs like Buckeye and Miramonte offers quiet solitude and excellent fishing. Abundant game and the remote location provide great hunting for all kinds of wildlife. Rich in mining heritage this area played an important part in the development of uranium for atomic energy.
Almost equal distance from Telluride, Montrose, Cortez, Grand Junction and Moab, this area offers an excellent opportunity to lose the tourist crunch and really get away!
