The Alcun Hotel was built in 1914. Alcun is Nucla spelled backwards. The building housed the Nucla State Bank; its entrance was located on the corner. It burned in December 1932, along with the post office.
In 1934 William Ray built another store to replace the Alcun Hotel. Later he sold it to George Wilson, who sold groceries.
